When I was 22, I refused the surgery to have all my large intestines and most my small intestine removed.
Just the thought of swapping my intestines for an ileostomy bag just was not an option for me. Even though the doctors warned me that I only had a 50% chance of surviving more than 6 months if I continued to avoid the medications and surgery.

After a motorbike crash that killed off 70% of my liver; I had aneurysm near the dead infected part of my liver. It turned out that I only have 1 artery supplying my liver which came from my large intestine.
So the operation I refused would of cut out my only blood supply to my liver and I would have died.
